Saarland Digital Twin: Open Geodata and Strong Partnerships
The Saarland Digital Twin has been online since March 2026 and makes geodata usable and accessible for a variety of applications. These applications include, for example, assessing flood risks and supporting various planning processes. We congratulate the Saarland State Office for Surveying, Geoinformation, and Land Development on this successful and openly accessible application.
How the Digital Twin Was Implemented in Saarland
It’s fascinating to take a look behind the scenes of this project: The digital twin was implemented by our partner M.O.S.S., with whom we have been working closely for many years. M.O.S.S. brings extensive experience in handling large geodata sets—from point clouds and 3D data to their integration.
The map integrated into the digital twin is based on our VC Map. M.O.S.S. also uses this map in other applications, including, for example, in the field of state surveying, such as at the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Geoinformation and Land Development (LGL).
Digital Twins in Action: Applications from the Saarland
This application demonstrates the importance of openly accessible geodata today and the role that surveying authorities can play in this context. This is precisely where our products come in: to process complex data in such a way that it becomes understandable and immediately usable.

What Insights Does the Digital Twin Provide?
The Saarland State Surveying Authority highlights the practical benefits: government agencies and the public can access a standardized data set and use it directly for analyses and decision-making.
Particularly noteworthy are the visualization and simulation capabilities—such as comprehensive point clouds or risk maps for flooding and heavy rainfall. These provide a solid foundation for planning, prevention, and communication.
