Cool places in the Digital Twin: Helping people stay cool during summer heat
As temperatures rise, the demand for shaded places to relax, drinking fountains, and pleasantly cool routes increases rapidly. The City of Braunschweig supports its citizens precisely where it matters most, with the new “Cool Places” map integrated into its Urban Digital Twin.
Finding cool places fast during hot weather
The “Cool Places” map highlights playgrounds, shaded routes, seating areas, water features, and drinking fountains throughout the city. This makes it easier for residents to plan routes and choose comfortable places to spend time, especially during hot weather.
Clicks on the Digital Twin increased tenfold during the most recent heatwave.
This demonstrates the strong demand for easily accessible information on heat exposure in urban areas.
For citizens, the Digital Twin provides a tangible benefit: instead of spending time searching, they can instantly identify places where staying outdoors is more comfortable, even during periods of high temperatures.
