Wiesbaden: Urban digital twin as a strategic smart city platform
Wiesbaden is consistently developing its urban digital twin, thereby establishing a strategic platform for digital urban development. The organizational realignment in the Smart City division gave rise to the impetus to systematically network existing structures and expand them in a future-proof manner.
The aim is to integrate topics such as municipal heat planning, mobility, climate, and citizen participation and to support data-based decisions in administration and politics. The digital twin serves as a common basis for work and communication, on which different departments can collaborate and complex interrelationships can be visualized in a comprehensible way.
The technical implementation is carried out using the VC Suite. Existing 3D models, geodata sets, and web applications were merged into VC Publisher, VC Map, VC Database, and VC Warehouse and strategically developed further. Instead of parallel individual solutions, a consolidated platform was created that combines public visualization with secure data storage within the municipal IT system. In the future, VC Story will expand the target group-oriented preparation of complex planning content.
A key success factor is the close cooperation between Smart City and geoinformation. Shared objectives and coordinated processes are creating a future-proof system landscape for the digital twin of the city of Wiesbaden – modular, expandable, and designed for the long term.
