Research project WAWUR on heavy rainfall
WAWUR (Wild runoff water in urban areas)
The project goal for WAWUR is to build a heavy rainfall portal for the city of Dresden to simulate and analyze locally occurring heavy rainfall in the 3D city model.

About the project
Virtual City Systems has set up a heavy rainfall portal for the city of Dresden as a result of the WAWUR (Wild Runoff Water in Urban Areas) research project. In three city districts, it is possible to track over time how locally occurring heavy rainfall collects on the surface, runs off again or seeps away, or backs up in the sewer system.
In conjunction with detailed building information, it has been possible for the first time not only to determine how affected the buildings are, but also to estimate the potential damage amounts during such extreme events. For frequently affected building components such as balconies, basement windows, house connection points, etc., typical damage patterns are created and guidelines for private heavy rain precautions are derived.
