FreiburgRESIST – increasing urban safety and resilience
Resilience management for the city of Freiburg im Breisgau
In Freiburg’s old city center with its narrow streets and lively squares, dangerous situations can often arise quickly during major events. A security concept here is subject to particularly complex requirements, as the situation can quickly become confusing for participants and emergency services in dangerous situations.
The FreiburgRESIST research project is now entering its second, practical phase, in which new adaptive and map-based security solutions for disaster control are to be investigated, tested and ultimately put into practice.

About the project
More security through a holistic, integrated resilience management system
Following the completion of the concept phase for FreiburgRESIST in 2022, the demonstration project will now begin testing a sustainable solution for Freiburg.
Both technical and competence-oriented components, which are specifically tailored to different user groups, will be brought together in the project.
From a technical perspective, existing systems of the security authorities will be networked and expanded with new functionalities such as simulations and sensor-based forecasts. All relevant data is to be made available digitally and centrally in order to ensure a simple and fast exchange of reliable information between security authorities, agencies and event organizers.
The competence-oriented components, on the other hand, are geared towards citizens. The project will develop training courses for the public that are designed to strengthen mutual support between citizens and their subjective sense of security.
The concept will be implemented as a prototype and scientifically tested by fall 2027. The system will be tested in several large-scale exercises and gradually optimized in order to achieve real added value for the security authorities and citizens.
