Assessing solar potential for municipalities
September 13, 2024: Invitation to the professional online exchange “Analyzing solar potentials in detail in the 3D city model – case study Hanseatic and University City of Rostock”
Webinar and professional exchange on solar potential analysis
The use of solar energy is steadily increasing worldwide and offers local authorities an important lever for achieving climate targets. Against this backdrop, Virtual City Systems, in collaboration with the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, has developed an innovative software offering that makes it possible to determine the solar potential of roof and wall surfaces for existing buildings, plans and open spaces in detail.
The software tool can be applied to 3D city models or 3D meshmodels with integrated planning scenarios and includes the calculation of yield, CO2 savings and profitability of the investment in photovoltaic systems.
Content of the webinar
Please note that the webinar will be held in German language.
In the first part of the webinar, Virtual City Systems and the City of Rostock will report on their experiences from the innovation partnership.
In the second part of the webinar, we would like to enter into an exchange with you to talk about the application scenarios of such an application:
- Who are the users of such a software tool to determine solar potential?
- Would internal users such as urban planning and environmental offices as well as external users such as citizens be conceivable?
- For which building types do you see the best application possibilities and where are restrictions?
Expert article and registration for the webinar
A detailed expert article on the topic of extended 3D solar potential analysis has been published in the Urban Digital information portal.
The thematically complementary webinar with professional exchange is aimed in particular at municipal representatives from the fields of digitization and smart city, geodata management, climate protection and urban planning.
