Bamberg’s Digital Twin takes visitors on a journey through time
The new VC Story offers insights from the historic old town to current smart city projects
Bamberg has implemented an innovative project in collaboration with VCS, integrating a VC Story into its Digital Twin. This multimedia feature offers a unique city experience where users can experience a compelling narrative through the 3D city model, which they can access via the Internet. For Bamberg, the VC Story serves multiple purposes: it showcases the city’s Smart City initiatives and highlights the iconic Old Town. The inclusion of textured building models of historic landmarks in the city center allows visitors to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
A personal aspect of the VC story is the video excerpt with former city councilor Klaus Gallenz, who remembers driving through the tunnel-like bridge through the city hall, which now serves as a pedestrian walkway and is transforming the cityscape. In addition, the digital journey includes a fascinating 3D mesh model of the Adlerbrunnen, created using state-of-the-art monument technology.
Bamberg’s Digital Twin, with its immersive VC Story, not only delights visitors, but also provides a dynamic platform to celebrate the city’s past, present and future. It is a testament to Bamberg’s commitment to embracing technological progress while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
