Analysis of urban development potentials based on XPlanning
Master thesis of colleague Tim Wendt published in GIS.Business
The work of Tim Wendt investigates the use of the digital exchange format XPlanGML to analyze the building development potential in Hamburg St. Pauli. It is based on the aggregation of building volume data and the comparison with permissible building volumes on parcels as well as information from the development plan. This makes it possible to determine the maximum legally permissible building development in the planning area. The work emphasizes the importance of spatial data standards for urban planning and real estate industry and the advantages of 3D modeling. Considering little open spaces for new construction projects in urban centers, vertical construction and densification of already built-up areas is a necessary approach to cope with the steady growth of certain cities.
