Milestone achieved in the PLIMOS R&D project
Autonomous e-shuttle bus on first public test drive through Grafing – the first important step towards everyday driving from 2025 has been taken.
On October 23, 2022, an autonomous vehicle drove through the Grafing industrial park Schammach for the first time in public. For the “Day of Innovation and Tradition”, the city of Grafing and the resident CADFEM GmbH had jointly invited to present the self-driving e-shuttle bus in action to the residents and guests of the city.
The milestone on October 23 was preceded by more than one and a half years of intensive research work in the PLIMOS project (Planung intermodaler Mobilitätsangebote basierend auf 3D-Simulationsmodellen). Here, the companies DB Regio Bus, 3D Mapping Solutions GmbH, CADFEM GmbH and virtualcitysystems GmbH cooperate with the chairs of transport engineering and geoinformatics at the Technical University of Munich.
The highly specialized companies and scientific institutions are working on a virtual test field in the digital twin of Grafing, where intermodal transport services are planned, learned and tested. “Grafing is to become a ‘model case and blueprint’ for self-driving transport connections,” explains Stefan Trometer of Virtual City Systems. Based on this foundation, the implementation of a wide variety of needs-based solutions for transport in rural areas will be supported.
