IstBayern
Real-time information system for smart visitor guidance for tourist facilities in Bavaria
The three-year project focuses on tourist mobility in Bavaria. The goal is to build and test an information network that compiles and analyzes data on visitor movements from various sources and provides near-real-time information on the current and future utilization of tourist hotspots in Bavaria.

About the project
Monitoring and evaluating visitor flows is particularly important for regions where tourism is a significant economic factor. Better organization of occupancy benefits all stakeholders, contributes to more sustainable tourism and helps to better meet the needs of guests.
In contrast to existing concepts of visitor management, the innovation in the IstBayern project is to manage visitor flows in real time based on a link between mobility and tourism. Data sources, such as floating car data, counters at visitor barriers and ticket machines, and public transport passenger counting systems, provide data in real time.
Apps use the processed visitor movement data to inform their users and offer, for example, public transport and sharing services as an immediate alternative to the current traffic volume.
Beyond the real-time capability, artificial intelligence or meta-models are to be used to make forecasts about visitor flows to be expected in the future. To improve forecast quality, neural networks are used that incorporate heterogeneous data, such as weather data from the DWD and calendar data on public holidays and events.
In the IstBayern project, Virtual City Systems has the task of further developing an interactive and web-based 3D region model platform. In addition, VCS is developing static and dynamic visualization methods for the presentation of motion data and analysis results. Furthermore, interfaces to the 3D region model platform and to the SDDI catalog platform of the Smart Cities and Regions of Bavaria are implemented.
